In plain terms
Sharing a clock is not the same as being told what to do. The clock and the carrier tell the antennas nothing about where to send the power - that comes from the ground signal, and each antenna works it out for itself. If the shared signal fails, the beam does not go somewhere wrong, it stops being a beam.
The claim as recorded
The distributed references in SRC-088 do not make the architecture centrally controlled. Claim 22 provides "means for RECEIVING OR GENERATING a system-wide synchronised timing reference", so local generation is inside the claim, which is not how a centrally controlled system is written. Neither a clock nor a reference carrier conveys any information about where the beam should point: all pointing information arrives from the ground in the pilot wavefront and is decoded independently at each element from its own local measurement. The failure mode is the decisive test. Under central control a corrupted central command produces a beam pointed wherever the corruption says. Here, losing the reference destroys coherence and the array defocuses. A central element that can only extinguish the beam and never aim it is not aiming it.
Scope and limits
This concerns the REFERENCES only. It says nothing about whether other parts of the spacecraft are centrally controlled, and nothing about command and control links, which are a separate system and a separate threat surface already covered by XC04 mechanism E. It is also not a security argument: a shared reference is still a single point of failure for coherence even though it is not a point of control, and the two are different properties. FOUR REFERENCES POINTED AT CLM-0900 FOR CONTENT IT DOES NOT HOLD, CORRECTED 2026-09-14. CLM-0900 is the beam-steering envelope record - 360 degrees azimuth, about plus or minus 55 degrees elevation. It contains no pilot-loss figure, no collapse relation and no detector-count bound; measured, none of "pilot loss", "collapse", "detector-count", "0.003", "7,220" or "defocus" occurs anywhere in it. THESE POINTERS RESOLVED AND RENDERED, WHICH MAKES THEM WORSE THAN THE LETTER LABELS SWEPT THE SAME DAY: a reader follows one and lands on a plausible-looking record answering a different question. The intended source is a drafted claim on pilot-loss collapse that WAS NEVER REGISTERED - searched claims.md for "0.003 mW", "7,220", "38.85", "38.59", "10.log10", "coherent-to-incoherent" and "0.26 dB", all zero, against live controls fail-safe 1, defocus 5, SRC-085 49 and mW/cm2 52 records. Registering it is queued; until then this record rests on SRC-085 p30 directly, which it already cites. CLM-0911 WAS REGISTERED 2026-09-14 and this reference now resolves to it. The earlier note above stands as the record of what was wrong: the pointer named CLM-0900, a real record answering a different question, and the content it wanted was drafted and never entered.
What it assumes
No assumptions are recorded against this claim.
Where it comes from
claim 22 verbatim: "An electromagnetic phased array according to claim 20 which includes means for receiving or generating a system-wide synchronised timing reference and means for sampling the spherical wavefront of an incoming pilot beam." Claim 19 for the reference frequency source. The failure behaviour follows from the defocus result in CLM-1478 and from CLM-0911. In the granted patent (SRC-795, 2021, read from page images) the same words are claim 21, which depends on claim 19 (internal p26, PDF p38), and the reference frequency source is claim 18 (PDF p37).
