In plain terms
A search for other, independent scientific papers that might confirm or challenge the well-known formula used to set space solar power's self-focusing safety threshold found none that actually give a comparable formula to check it against - and the papers most likely to have one could not be accessed at all.
The claim as recorded
Of three open-access theoretical papers retrieved in a search for independent corroboration of the widely-quoted self-focusing threshold formula Pth = 0.43 x (1e12/Ne)^3 x (Te/1000)^4 x f_GHz^3 W/m2 (Liu et al. 2018, Usui et al. 2002, Sodha, Sharma, Verma and Faisal 2007), none gives a closed-form threshold in this form with comparable exponents on Ne, Te and f; the four papers most likely to have supplied a directly comparable relation (Sodha 2006, Sodha 2007 JGR, Keskinen and Basu 2003, Guzdar et al. 1996/1998) could not be retrieved, two (the Sodha Wiley papers) returning HTTP 403 despite being nominally open access and the other two being closed access.
Scope and limits
A negative result about ACCESS and RETRIEVAL, not a statement that the 0.43 coefficient is wrong or unsupported in the wider (inaccessible) literature. "Not yet independently checked" is the correct status, not "unconfirmed" or "contradicted."
What it assumes
The open-access-only, no-bot-bypass search constraints reflect a genuine, not merely convenient, inability to access these four papers; two (the Sodha Wiley papers) are nominally "bronze" open access but returned HTTP 403 on every scripted attempt.
Where it comes from
The register records that none of the three retrievable papers state an independent numerical coefficient that can be compared with 0.43, not because they disagree with it, but because none of them casts its result in the same closed form. The four papers most likely to have given a directly comparable relation could not be retrieved.
Basis: none (closed-form threshold power-density formula)
