In plain terms
In April 2026 Meta said it had reserved up to 1 GW of future space solar power from Overview Energy, with a test in 2028 and power possibly from 2030.
The claim as recorded
Meta stated on 2026-04-27 that it had secured "a capacity reservation for space solar energy" with Overview Energy for up to 1 GW, that Overview's orbital demonstration is planned for 2028, and that, if it succeeds, commercial delivery to the US grid could start as early as 2030.
Evidence behind this: T6, a company statement, here the buyer's; independent of Overview Energy's own release (CLM-1225), so the two corroborate that the reservation exists, not that it will be delivered.
Scope and limits
A reservation is not a delivery contract; no price, term or penalties are stated. "Up to" sets a ceiling. The 2030 date is conditional on the 2028 demonstration.
What it assumes
No assumptions are recorded against this claim.
Where it comes from
text: "a capacity reservation for space solar energy"; "up to 1 GW"; orbital demonstration "planned for 2028"; delivery "as early as 2030" (paraphrased around the quotes).
