In plain terms

A US start-up said in late 2025 that it had beamed power from a plane to the ground, and planned an orbital test in 2028 and its first megawatt from space in 2030.

The claim as recorded

Overview Energy stated on 2025-12-10 that it had beamed power from a moving aircraft to a ground receiver 5 km below, that "a low Earth orbit demonstration will follow in 2028", and that commercial operations in geosynchronous orbit "are targeted to begin with the world's first megawatt transmission from space in 2030".

Evidence behind this: T6, the company's own press release; it permits "Overview Energy stated Y on date Z" only.

Scope and limits

Self-reported. The power received in the aircraft test is not stated. The architecture beams near-infrared light onto existing and future utility-scale solar projects, so "megawatt transmission" is light delivered, not net electricity. The only funding stated is $20M.

What it assumes

No assumptions are recorded against this claim.
