In plain terms
A major Chinese government-linked design paper on a specific space solar power concept does not mention the upper atmosphere at all, and does not reference any of the classic Western physics papers on beam-ionosphere interaction.
The claim as recorded
Hou et al.'s (2024/2025) CAST-led MMR-SPS concept paper contains zero occurrences of "ionospher-" anywhere in its full text, and its 39-item reference list contains no citation to Perkins, Goldman, Thome, Roble or Matsumoto; the list is mostly English-language and international, and only three entries ([12], [13], [24]) are Chinese-published.
Scope and limits
A negative result about ONE paper's scope (a structural/systems/beamforming design paper), not a claim that no Chinese researchers engage with ionospheric physics - a separate Chongqing University paper (Guo et al. 2026) does engage with this literature directly, in English, on arXiv. Should not be generalised to "Chinese research" as a whole.
What it assumes
The full text obtained (arXiv mirror of the published IEEE paper) is complete and matches the published version.
Where it comes from
The register records that a full-text keyword search found zero occurrences of "ionospher" anywhere in this paper, and that a reference-list check (PDF pp.12-13) confirmed no Perkins/Goldman/Thome/Roble/Matsumoto citation.
Basis: none (citation and keyword search)
