In plain terms
Rats exposed most of every day for a whole pregnancy at about 200 W/m2, close to the 230 W/m2 design centre, had normal pups and normal grand-pups on the tests used.
The claim as recorded
An unpublished abstract reports that pregnant Wistar rats exposed to 2450 MHz at 20 mW/cm2 (200 W/m2) for 8 hours a day throughout pregnancy, a mean 108 hours in total, showed no significant change in prenatal or postnatal development. Measures covered maternal weight gain, fetal and placental weights, litter size, resorptions and abnormalities, four reflex tests, eye opening, six adult behavioural tests, rebreeding of the mothers and the F2 generation. The 20 mW/cm2 level was chosen by stepping down from 25 mW/cm2 until no rectal temperature rise beyond the control range was seen.
Evidence behind this: T3, an unpublished abstract and summary; it permits "the abstract reports Y". 24 exposed dams by the abstract.
Scope and limits
ANIMAL, NOT HUMAN. Incident density only; no SAR. Rotating-antenna field approximates a stirred field; per-position spread not stated. Counts differ inside the file: the abstract says 24 exposed rats, the summary splits them 11 killed plus 12 reared (23). Behavioural sample sizes are tens of offspring per test. 20 mW/cm2 = 200 W/m2, 87% of the 230 W/m2 centre (my arithmetic). No authors or venue printed.
What it assumes
No assumptions are recorded against this claim.
Where it comes from
PDF p.1: 24 rats, 8 h daily, 20 mW/cm2, 108 h, 8 concurrent controls, 59 baseline control litters; 103 irradiated fetuses examined (paraphrase). PDF p.2: 25-point field mapping with a rotating antenna at 30 rpm, daily Narda measurement at each position, at most four animals per run, rectal temperature three times daily (paraphrase). PDF p.3: "No significant alterations due to exposure throughout pregnancy" at 20 mW/cm2.
Basis: mW/cm2 incident; 8 h/day through gestation, mean total 108 h; rectal temperature checks
