In plain terms
A 2026 expert commentary suggests that power-satellite and grid operators at mid-latitudes might get about an hour's notice of space storms that would weaken the beam, enough to adjust, though not ideal.
The claim as recorded
A 2026 commentary in Space Weather suggests that for receiving sites at mid-latitudes "it might be possible to have an hour's warning of storm-driven density changes", because storm effects travel equatorward from the polar thermosphere, and that such a warning, though "far from ideal", could let SBSP and grid operators adjust for lost beam power in near real time.
Evidence behind this: T2: a peer-reviewed commentary; the author's reading of the literature and view, with no data.
Scope and limits
Hedged by the source itself ("might"), and the "hour" is not derived or referenced in the commentary. It covers mid-latitude sites only and says nothing of high or low latitudes, where the next page (PDF p.3) says scintillation is especially common. It is not an operational forecast capability.
What it assumes
No assumptions are recorded against this claim.
Where it comes from
PDF p.2, text layer and render: the quotation; same passage: storm effects "propagate equatorward via thermospheric winds driven by heat deposited in the polar thermosphere", and "Whilst far from ideal, such warnings could enable near-real-time measures to adjust for any loss of delivered power from space". The warning is addressed to "power grid operators" in the same paragraph. The page prints U+2010 hyphens; the quotations use ASCII.
Basis: minutes to hours of warning; no figure beyond "an hour's"
