In plain terms
China's state broadcaster said in 2022 that China planned a 10 kW orbital test in 2028, 10 MW by 2035 and a 2 GW commercial plant by 2050.
The claim as recorded
CGTN reported on 2022-06-22 a staged Chinese plan: a low-Earth-orbit wireless power experiment in 2028 on a satellite "capable of generating 10 kilowatts"; over 100 kW by 2030; a transmitting antenna of about 100 m and 10 MW by 2035; and by 2050 a commercially operated plant generating "two gigawatts".
Evidence behind this: T5, state media restating a university and CAST programme plan; it permits "CGTN reported on date Z that the plan is Y" only.
Scope and limits
State media; no budget, launch vehicle or orbit is given for the later stages, and no grid-connection date is given before 2050. The 2030 stage is over 100 kW, not 1 MW as some secondary summaries say.
What it assumes
No assumptions are recorded against this claim.
Where it comes from
text: 2028 LEO experiment, satellite "capable of generating 10 kilowatts", transmission tested over 400 km; by 2030 "over 100 kilowatts"; by 2035 an antenna of about 100 m and "10 megawatts"; 2050 a commercial plant of "two gigawatts" with an antenna of about one kilometre.
