In plain terms

The "space ready" rectenna was tested for surviving the rocket launch and fitting into its container. Its report describes no vacuum or heat testing.

The claim as recorded

A report titled "Construction and Testing of a Space Ready Rectenna" contains no vacuum, thermal or temperature testing of any kind. The space qualification it describes is mechanical survival of launch and conformance to a package envelope: shock predicted at 40 g for 10 milliseconds, equated by the report to a 140 g static load, with a vibration schedule of 3.06 mm amplitude from 10 to 35 Hz and 7.5 g from 35 to 400 Hz, into a package of 27 cm by 10 cm by 1.6 cm. "Space ready" in this document means it survives the ride and fits the box.

Evidence behind this: T3-primary-report. A final report is the right authority for what its own programme tested, and the weakest possible authority for what happened outside it - which is why this record is scoped to the document rather than to the question.

Scope and limits

THIS IS A NULL OVER ONE DOCUMENT'S TEXT LAYER AND NOT A CLAIM THAT NO SUCH TESTING HAPPENED. It may have been done and reported elsewhere, or not have been required for a sub-orbital flight lasting minutes. The report is a final report under Grant NAG 3-1368 and does not say either way, which is itself the limit: absence of mention is not a statement of absence. Nor does it say the hardware would fail thermally - nothing here is a prediction about the article's behaviour in vacuum. The source's vibration schedule has a third band the claim's sentence leaves out: 15 g from 400 to 2,000 Hz (p.15); the schedule does not end at 400 Hz.

What it assumes

No assumptions are recorded against this claim.

Where it comes from

SRC-340 Construction and Testing of a Space Ready Rectenna, Final Report, 1993
A NULL, WITH CONTROLS RUN FIRST AND THE POPULATION STATED. Extractor PyMuPDF get_text through pdfnorm, all 37 pages, tested at both the normalised and squashed levels so that letterspacing could not manufacture the zero. Controls present and non-zero at both levels: rectenna 142, element 43, efficiency 15. Absent at both levels: vacuum 0, thermal 0, temperature 0, cooling 0, cooled 0, and outgas 0 added on registration. The mechanical qualification is at PDF p.15, verbatim: "The shock during launch is predicted to be 40 g for 10 milliseconds. This force equates to a 140 g static load."
