In plain terms

Two separate UK and European studies of the same satellite design agree that building five to ten of them, instead of just one, cuts the cost of electricity by roughly a fifth to a quarter. That is a real and consistent finding, but it is far too small an effect to explain why different institutions' cost estimates differ by many times over.

The claim as recorded

Two independent Frazer-Nash CASSIOPeiA studies (BEIS 2021, ESA 2022) show a consistent, moderate FOAK-to-NOAK cost reduction: Frazer-Nash BEIS NOAK(5th)/FOAK p50 = 0.750 (25% reduction); Frazer-Nash ESA NOAK(10th) p50/FOAK p10 = 0.835 and NOAK(10th) p90/FOAK p90 = 0.755.

Scope and limits

This effect is an order of magnitude too small to explain the multi-fold spread examined in this restatement (CLM-0379); it does not touch the core FOAK-vs-FOAK comparison at all, since that comparison already holds unit count fixed.

What it assumes

No assumptions are recorded against this claim.

Where it comes from

This is the project's own working, shown in full:
