In plain terms
In 2025, a House of Lords committee looking at UK space policy received written submissions from two space-based-solar-power advocacy organisations, Space Solar and the Space Energy Initiative, asking for more UK government funding and support. The committee published its final report in November 2025, and the government responded in January 2026.
The claim as recorded
The House of Lords ad hoc "UK Engagement with Space" Committee inquiry (open 2025-02-26, written evidence deadline 2025-04-17) received written evidence submissions explicitly addressing space-based solar power from Space Solar (submission SPA0048, dated 2025-04-16) and from the Space Energy Initiative (submission SPA0062, dated 2025-04-17), both arguing for further UK government funding and support for SBSP; the inquiry's report, "The Space Economy: Act Now or Lose Out", was published 2025-11-04, with a government response from the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology on 2026-01-30.
Scope and limits
This confirms that written evidence on SBSP was submitted TO Parliament by two interested industry/advocacy parties. It does NOT show that the Lords committee's own final report endorsed SBSP, recommended funding for it, or even mentioned it substantively -- the report and government response were not read for SBSP-specific content. Do not treat this claim as evidence that the committee or the government agreed with the submitters. Both submissions are advocacy (T5, ADV) from organisations with a direct commercial or institutional interest in UK SBSP funding decisions; Space Solar and the Space Energy Initiative also each cite and rely on the other's roadmap and figures within their own submissions, so the two should not be treated as fully independent corroboration of each other's factual claims.
What it assumes
No assumptions are recorded against this claim.
Where it comes from
